For PROs, Diwali a lackluster affair | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 28: The Diwali festivity may be a lackluster affair for all PROs attached with the Ministers, MLAs and MLCs as their hopes of getting enhanced emoluments is still uncertain despite the legislators having got the incentive for the new hiked honorarium i.e. upto Rs 1.60 lakh. According to sources, the PROs of MLAs and MLCs are getting meager Rs 6000/- per month but they have anchored their hopes as there were rumours about enhancement of their emoluments by Rs 10,000/. "Months have passed but the 'green pastures' in regard to enhanced honorarium still is an illusion for these PROs who are running from pillar to post," sources said. They said the PROs were told if Speaker of Assembly takes up the issue then the things would take a shape but till date nothing has been done in this regard for the reasons better known to concerned MLAsand MLCs who failed to take up the genuine issue of PROs. Asserting that MLAs/MLCs are receiving the hiked salaries for last four- five months, the sources lamented if government can decide about hiking monthly salaries of Ministers/MLAs/MLCs why can't it do the same for PROs working . A PRO working with a MLA elected from Jammu, said it is just a feeling that they are not unemployed otherwise working 24 hrs for just Rs 6000/- one could believe or think off. He said at least they should be given a hike to meet their expenses Pertinently, Government during the last assembly session had doubled the salary of legislators from Rs 80K to Rs 1.60 Lakh On the last day of the month long budget session of assembly in June, the state government announced pay hike for MLAs and MLCs and ministers while the pension of former legislators was hiked from Rs28000/- to Rs50000/-. Under the new amendments, the salary of an MLA and MLC was doubled from Rs. 80000/ per month to Rs 160,000. |
