Terrorists kill jawan, mutilate body; flee to PoK | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 28: An army jawan was martyred in an encounter with terrorists who later mutilated his body near the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of Kupwara district of Kashmir. One terrorist was also killed in the gunbattle, Indian army said here tonight. According to initial reports, terrorists mutilated the body of the soldier before fleeing into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The terrorists were supported by cover fire from Pakistani army posts, an Army spokesman said. "In an encounter close to the Line of Control this evening, one soldier was martyred and one terrorist was killed. The terrorists mutilated the body of the jawan before fleeing back into Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir under the cover of firing by Pakistan Army," an army spokesman said. He said the incident reflected the barbarism pervading in official and unofficial organisations in Pakistan. "The incident will be responded to appropriately," he added. Heavy firing is still underway in Machil sector where Indian troops are retaliating the unprovoked firing by Pakistan rangers on Indian posts. Meanwhile, Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh strongly protested unprovoked firing by Pak in various sectors to provide cover to infiltrators which resulted in deaths of many civilians and a soldier. India also raised the issue of airspace violations by unmanned aerial vehicles. Two civilians were killed in Jammu region in cross-border shelling and firing overnight even as BSF today claimed to have killed 15 Pakistani soldiers over the last one week. A soldier was also killed on Thursday as Army foiled an infiltration bid by terrorists from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in Tangdhar sector along Line of Control in Kashmir. |
