Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 22: Lack of medical facilities and shortage of infrastructure including beds, are grievously hitting the patients care in the biggest hospital of Jammu province, Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu and doctors and paramedical staff have to face the anger of attendants due to discrepancy in services. Pertinently, at present the GMCH has 1000 beds in all. On an average, nearly 1500 people visit Out Patients Department (OPD)s of GMC Jammu and out of them 3 to 4 hundred patients get admitted in the various wards of the hospital daily causing a serious shortfall of beds. "A number of times doctors have to face the anger of the attendants over the shortage of beds, drugs, ventilators and other others medical facilities but they do not understand that doctors are not responsible to ensure that facilities available to patients were adequate, "doctors told Early Times, seeking anonymity. They further added that when patient get admission in the hospital, there is no to guide them properly. Anyhow, if patient succeeds to reach the ward, he/she finds that there is no bed available, breaking out an altercation with the doctors and paramedical staff and delay in treatment. "Neither, attendants are responsible for the mess nor doctors who are treating patients. It is just the fault of the our government, Health department and concerned officials, who have engaged themselves with political leaders instead of projecting the demands, requirements and other for welfare of the patients as well as this hospital," they stated. When contacted Principal Secretary Dr Pawan Kotwal said, "Administration has funds and they can buy the beds as per requirement but before going to install new beds, they need to assess the space and staff strength," he said. |
