Talk or no talk with Pakistan | Double-speak | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 22: There is something fundamentally wrong with the BJP. It is not consistent in its approach towards anything. It speaks in different languages at different places and on the same issue. It is taking recourse to the politics of double-speaking taking the people for a ride. The latest double-speak of the BJP concerns talks with Pakistan on Jammu & Kashmir. Narendra Modi Government has given the nation to understand that there can't be any dialogue with Pakistan, which has been bleeding India with a 1000-cut almost on daily-basis with a view to annexing the state. Only two days ago, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh made a categorical statement that there could be no talks with Pakistan which had been violating ceasefire, causing terror attacks and creating instability in the region. But on Thursday, Jammu & Kashmir BJP took an altogether a different line. It virtually said that Pakistan was a stakeholder in Jammu & Kashmir and there was no other option available except to talk to Pakistan. Actually, Jammu & Kashmir BJP general secretary (organization) was commenting on the state government's spokesperson and a minister in the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP-BJP coalition government Naeem Akhtar's statement on China. Akhtar had said that China and Pakistan were one and that if India didn't talk to Pakistan, China will a major role in Jammu & Kashmir. Taking on Naeem Akhtar, the BJP general secretary said that he was diverting the people's attention away from other issues and that China was not a stakeholder in the state. "We are surprised over the statement of Akhtar. We disagree (with it.) Naeem Akhtar wants to divert attention of the people from other issues. There are many important issues and they PDP must concentrate on them. People should not be taken for a ride by giving such statements. Role of Pakistan in Kashmir has been established time and again. Talks with Pakistan are the only option and China should not be made another party," the BJP general secretary reportedly said. What the BJP leader said was precisely the line of the PDP. The PDP had been on the floor of the assembly and outside saying day in and day out that talks with Pakistan were imperative if peace was to be restored in the state. The PDP had taken the same line the day Indian Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited Jammu to take stock of the situation arising out of the deadly terror attack on the Sunjuwan Army camp and said on the floor of the assembly that India and Pakistan must talk to each other. Te PDP made this statement after the Defence Minister said in her Jammu press conference that "Pakistan will have to pay the price for its Sunjuwan misadventure". By taking recourse to double-speak on the issue of talks with Pakistan, the BJP has only exposed itself and become a laughing stock in the eyes of the people. It's time for the BJP to adopt a firm and consistent approach towards Pakistan. It must tell Pakistan quit PoJK and not export terrorism into India failing which New Delhi would adopt a policy that would produce a moral effect. |
