BANDIPORA (Hajin), Feb 22: Militants opened fire on Army injuring a soldier during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Paribal village in Hajin area of this north Kashmir district today.
A senior police official said that, following inputs about the presence of militants in the area, a joint team of security forces including 13 Rashtriya Rifle (RR) police, and SOG launched a cordon and search operation in Paribal area of Hajin town today morning.
As the security forces tightened the cordon militants opened fire on the search party injuring an army soldier, the police official said.
The official said that, the injured army soldier was identified as Gobind Singh of 13 Para of Hajin camp, adding the injured jawan was moved to the military hospital for further treatment.
However sources told early times that all the entry and exit points were sealed by the security forces so that militants could not escape from the area.
Sources further said that people from the area took to streets and staged protests in a bid to help the militants escape.
The militants hiding in the village opened fire after a search party approached them, leaving an army soldier injured, sources informed.
They said that few days back, the security forces had received inputs about the presence of militants in the same area, after which it was known that the militants had escaped from the area as locals clashed with forces.
