BARAMULLA (Uri), Feb 22: Amid high escalation over borders, three houses suffered damage after the armies of both Indian and Pakistani exchanged heavy artillery shelling on Thursday morning in Uri sector of this north Kashmir district. According to sources Pakistani army on Thursday morning resorted to "heavy shelling" on Indian army posts, in Uri sector. As of now there is no loss life till the last reports came in. Sources from Uri sector told Early Times that, "today at 8:10 am there was heavy artillery shelling from across the border in Churunda, Tilawari, Silikote, and Hajipeer in Uri sector. "There was a war like situation on borders as the firing was continued for hours due to which panic gripped the area and people ran towards the safer places, said sources. Sources said that people from several areas of Uri which include Silikote, Thajal, Tillawari, Churanda are fleeing from their houses and authorities have asked the health department to be on alert. Aijaz Ahmad from Uri said that, three houses were hit with mortar shelling including of Ghulam Rasool Najar S/O Subhan Najar, Muneer Ahmad S/ O Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Zaiwran Bega W/O Subhan Ganie R/O Tilawari and a mosque of the same village got also damaged. Tillawari and Thajal villages are very close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area, adding that Pakistan resorted unprovoked firing near Rustam post of Nambla area. Meanwhile a top police official said that, we have kept scores of vehicles ready to evacuate people from the affected area and have kept ambulances ready in case emergency arises. Indian army also gave befitting reply, however the firing was stopped in the afternoon from both the sides, adding the movement of people in Churanda, Batgrah, Tilwari, Salikote, Hathlanga and Sohra areas of Uri has been stopped, the police official said. Earlier on Monday, at least four civilians including a lady were injured when Pakistani troops resorted to "heavy shelling" in Churunda Silikote area of Hajipeer Sector of Uri. Meanwhile Pakistani troops also resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian posts in Tangdhar sector in Kupwara district in which one BSF personal was killed due to sniper shot. The Indian soldiers retaliated to the aggression from across the LoC effectively. |
