Jammu, Feb 27: Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, NWR Madhu Mahajan, IRS and the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Amritsar Narender Singh came to Jammu on two days visit and held several rounds of meetings with the officers of Income Tax, J&K charge to review the actions being taken to achieve the action plan targets set out by the Central Board of Direct Taxes which included Budget Collection, Recovery of Demand, Operation Clean Money, Cash deposits during demonetization period etc. Mahajan asked the officers to take aggressive measures to recover outstanding demand by conducting recovery surveys, attachment and auction of movable and immovable properties, issue of warrant of arrest against the habitual tax defaulters, etc. She also directed the officers to take stern actions including launching of prosecutions against those who have either not filed returns of income or have understated their income. During the review meetings it was found out that many DDOs have not uploaded the TDS deducted from the taxpayers on AS 26 and there is huge mismatch in the tax deducted and tax paid. As a result, the taxpayers are facing great difficulties in getting tax credits. The Pr. Chief Commissioner asked the officers to conduct surveys, identify such DDOs and launch prosecutions against them. Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K RN Sahay and all officers of J&K charge were present during the meeting. |
