Farmers sensitized for promoting organic vegetable production | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 27: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day Demonstration Programme on low cost technologies for mass production of bio agents under Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Govt of India sponsored project, at village Garhi, Block Marh, Jammu. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr R K Gupta and Dr Kamlesh Bali Principal and Co-Investigator of the programme. The objective of the programme was to create awareness among the farmers for the setting up of community based low cost mass production units of bio-agents to reduce the pesticide pressure on the crops and save the environment from the excessive use of chemicals. Fifty four farmers along with field staff from Department of Agriculture were trained on self production homemade pesticide of botanical origin like Neem Seed Kernal Extract and Pongamia Extract. A demonstration on use of Trichogramma in vegetable was also conducted. Besides, Dr Anil Bushan demonstrated skill in the production organic vegetables. The bio pesticides and bio rationales were also distributed among farmers. Nirmal Parkash, Agriculture Extension Officer, Mishriwalla debated on pesticide free vegetable production in the area and emphasized the need for organizing such demonstration programme for the benefit of farming community in future also. |
