After Geelani's resignation, Mirwaiz goes into hibernation | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 26: Even as the sudden resignation of Senior Separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani from Tehreek-e-Hurriyat has set rumor mills rife over reasons behind his decision, his arch-rival Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has gone into hibernation in his own Hurriyat (M) camp. While Geelani is believed to have resigned following threats from the supporters of Islamic State, what is shocking is that Mirwaiz who heads Hurriyat (M) has been staying away from the party activities since then. Sources said on March 25, a few days after Geelani's resignation, the Hurriyat (M) had called a meeting to decide future course of action. However it was reliably learnt that Mirwaiz preferred to stay away from the meeting. Sources said the meeting of conglomerate, held at Hurriyat headquarters Rajbagh, was chaired by senior executive council member Prof Abdul Gani Bhat to "discuss the present political situation in the backdrop of changing geo-political scenario in the region." Sources said Mirwaiz had requested Bhat to chair the meeting in the absence. As per insiders senior representatives of various constituents of Hurriyat (M) participated in the meeting but Mirwaiz was conspicuous for this absence. Sources said many of those present at the meeting questioned Mirwaiz's absence in such a testing situation. It was reliably learnt that the meeting was called in the wake of threat to the Hurriyat leaders from global terror networks like Islamic State. Some time back the Islamic State had also released a video against the Hurriyat leadership. Sources said the Hurriyat leaders are shocked by Geelani's decision to resign and thus don't want to end up in any controversy surrounding international terror groups. Sources said in the wake of Geelani's decision to quit, Mirwaiz wants to play "extra cautious." "The situation is tense and thus it's better to stay away from any development that ends up as a controversy," said a source close to Mirwaiz. Interestingly, Geelani has also been silent since the day he resigned from the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat as its Chairman. His successor Sehrai on the other hand has condemned Islamic State and Al-Qaida |
