| 14 year old killed in 'accidental' fire | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Apr 5: A 14 year old student of 8th standard died in suspicious circumstances in a gunshot in a remote village under the jurisdiction of Dharamshal police station in Rajouri district on Thursday evening.
According to initial reports the boy reportedly committed suicide when no member of the family was at home.
A senior police officer however said that it was too early to say whether it was an accidental fire or suicide case as the village is situated in remote area and police party from Taryath police station was on way to the village for the legal formalities.
The boy has been identified as 14 years old Gagan Ram s/o Raja Ram r/o Chakk Patti under Taryath police post. Initial reports said that at the time mishap the family members were not at home.
"As per initial reports Gagan Ram died due to accidental fire by VDC gun" said SSP, Yougal Manhas.
In the past also VDC guns either were used in similar incidents. 303 guns were issued to the people of remote village after framing the Village Defence Committees (VDCs) so that the people may save their lives from militants when the militancy was at peek in the district.
The district has not witnessed any militancy related incident for the last many years and the people still have these guns in their possession and many times the misuse of these guns was reported. |
