Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 14: When late Mufti Mohd.Sayeed forged an alliance with the BJP he had in mind to end the prolonged regional discrimi nation and divide. He had in his mind that sharing power with the BJP meant ending regional discrimination. Political observers are of the opinion that late Mufti had no other alternative but to share power with the BJP because alliance with the Congress could not get him the requisite numbers which would have helped him to form the Government.
Yes, he could have formed the Government in alliance with the National Conference but with a long history of political animosity between the PDP and the NC Mufti Sayeed rejected any such proposal. But his dream stands shattered because of the current regional and communal divide
Over rape and murder of one Asifa.
This time the BJP is busy in supporting the alleged victim of rape and murder while the Kashmir centric PDP is in the forefront of those leaders from the valley who condemn rape and murder of a teenager.Since PDP has to bear barbs from the opposition its leadership has lend support to those who support Kathua rape victim. It is so because PDP wants to strengthen its vote bank. On the other hand BJP is also trying to stop erosion in its vote bank in the region of Jammu but it seems a bit late in trying to stgrengthen its vote bank.
Those who had initially supported the BJP's move to share power with the PDP had believed that once for all the regional divide will be finished. But over the years these very supporters have changed their views on the plea that the alliance has proved a total failure. Neither the regional discrimination has ended nor the BJP has been able to fulfill its poll promises. Similarly the PDP has been berated for forging an alliance with the saffron Brigade. This way neither the BJP has become a gainer nor the PDP has become a major loser.
And the next Assembly elections may prove the political observers right or wrong because this time they believe or rather predict massive defeat for both the BJP in the region of Jammu and for the PDP in the vale of Kashmir. This time it is anger against BJP in the region of Jammu and peoples' hatred for the PDP in the valley of Kashmir. And what is happening in Kashmir these days is out of anger against the coalition Government and that is the reason for crowds surfacing during the encounters between militants and security forces.
Even during the burial of militants large number of people are present despite restrictions imposed by the Government. And later at the burial ceremony or at the site of encounters between the security forces and militants clashes between the security forces and civilians do take place in which some civilians get killed or injured allowing an opportunity to separatists to rake up Kashmir issue and shed crocodile tears over human rights violations.
The idea of late Mufti to promote regional balance is dashed to the ground because during the last three years regional discrimination has risen to new heights.. It is so because BJP has played a passive role in fulfilling its poll primises and the one in mind is the grant of citizenship rights to refugees from Pakistan. Those from Occupuied Kashmir are citizens of the state as per the state constitution. Then the BJP failed to see abrogation Article 370 an d 35-A repealed.
This way the BJP is finished in the regikon of Jammu where people had given to the party 25 seats and 28 seats to the PDP.The two may show a very poor performance during the next elections thanks to the campaign against the coalition Government launched by the NC and the Congress.Next time it may be the NC led Government in alliance with the Congress if Modi is not able to redress the grievances of people of the state, especially in the Jammu region. That should be the reason for Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son, Omar Abdullah to upgrade their attack not only against the coalition Government but against Modi and his Government which takes Farooq and Omar closer to Rahul Gandhi.
