"Operators have to get the requisite permission from the concerned local authorities before installation of towers, but the latter should also check the emission level so that it does not affect the health of those living in their close vicinity," they said. According to experts continuous exposure to a cell tower located within 50 mt of residential area may carry the cancer risk and besides it people living near the mobile towers face other disorders like extreme fatigue, headaches, sleep disorders, memory loss, depression, hearing loss, joint pains, skin problems and cardiovascular problems. "Mushrooming of cell towers in localities must be stopped," said Mohammad Atif and Mahant Singh, adding that those violating norms to this effect must be identified and punished. Residents of ward No 5 and Pahari hostel Naresh Singh called upon the authorities concerned to find out who had given permission for erection of cellphone tower in their locality.
