China and India keen to promote cordial relations
4/17/2018 11:01:36 PM
Is China keen to promote cordial ties with India? This question has dominated interest among top leadership in the US and other developed nations. The interest is the result of freezing relations between the two sides after China claimed and deployed its troops in Doklam. Since the last one year a new conflict has surfaced between the two sides that too when India has been accusing China of harbouring extra-territorial ambitions. But of late China and its authorities have voiced hope on rebuilding relations with India. This follows upgrading of the security grid on the entire Indo-Chinese border. And Beijing has given a new definition of the bilateral ties after China wants to stick to the "right path" of bilateral ties with India, explore new areas for cooperation and ensure sound and steady development of the relationship, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has said. For the last several months there have been series of high level meetings between the two senior leaders and diplomats of the two countries. After last year's stand-off in Doklam, India and China have stepped up dialogue at various levels to reset the ties.
China's ties with India had seen new progress and all round cooperation this year. This year, under the guidance of the two leaders (Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi), China and India relations have been developing with a sound momentum. China attaches great importance to developing relations with India and we would like to work together to implement the consensus reached by leaders, stick to the right path of the bilateral ties, accumulate more positive energy, explore new areas for cooperation and ensure sound and steady development of bilateral ties. It is not known yet whether China is playing its cards secretly and so well that Beijing could take New Delhi by surprise by launching attacks on various sector on the LAC. Since the border between India and China has not been fully demarcated India fears that China make take undue advantage of it. And if the two sides initiate measures for demarcation of the border it may add to the conflict of the two sides because China, basking under the shadow of superior nuclear weapons and missiles than India, Beijing could commit some mischief. And in the contest India has taken adequate steps for defending its sovereignty, integrity and save itself from any Chinese mischief.
But this time China seems to be sincere in promoting cordial ties with India. May be China has realized the gravity of the situation which may assume alarming dimensions once India and China fought another war. And this time many super powers including the US, Japan, Germany and France are supporting India and this could have motivated China to restart the course of dialogue. The India-China ties, accumulate more positive energy, explore new areas for cooperation and ensure sound and steady development of bilateral ties, is the new mantra of Beijing. Which has seen close exchanges at all levels and new progress in all round cooperation. On April 13, a meeting was held between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Yang Jiechi, Director of China's Foreign Affairs Commission and member of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) in Shanghai. Besides the meeting between Yang and Doval, the two countries "successfully" held the 11th Joint Economic Group meeting and the fifth Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) Officials from the two foreign ministries also met. The two sides also held working mechanism meeting on border affairs and cross-border rivers. These interactions show that China and India share wide range of common interests and the bilateral cooperation holds great potential. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are also due to visit China on April 24 to take part in the meetings of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Prime Minister Modi himself is scheduled to visit China in June to take part in the SCO summit in the Chinese city of Qingdao and he may be able to refashion the ties which may assume bigger dimensions in the interest of India and China.
