Manjkot protest enters day 11

Rajouri, May 4: The protest demonstration and sit in dharna by the people of Manjakot town and from various parts of the tehsil today entered 11th day. Protesters today blocked Jammu -Poonch highway for one hour at 2 pm in favour of their demands of Degree College, Munsiff court and appointment of Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM). The protest was held under the banner of Joint Action Committee. A team of senior district officers including Abdul Qayoom Mir, ACR ; Mohd Yousuf, Additional SP reached Manjakot and in the presence of SDPO, Tehsildar and SHO, Manjakot held meeting with the members of JAC. "The officers informed that our demands are under the consideration by the government and we should suspend our protest" said a JAC member. JAC members said that they are peace loving people and don't want to create any disturbance on the important highway. "However, we can't compromise on the future of our kids and coming generations. Our peaceful protest demonstration will continue till our genuine demands are not addressed by the government in the shape of formal government order (s)" said Abdul Qadir Khan, convener, JAC.
He added the large number of people willing to come on the roads in favour of our demands but yet we have not allowed them for any disturbance on the highway.
Jammu -Poonch highway is very important border road link and besides civilians it is being frequently used by the army for its defensive strategies.
