Bhagli villagers struggle for drinking water | | | Arun Jasrotia Early Times Report Udhampur, May 4 : The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has failed to provide safe water to many of the villages in the state. Funds released by the Union Government have not been utilised by the state, reports said. Union Government launched scheme " National Rural Drinking Water Programme" (NRDWP) aimed at providing safe and sustainable portable drinking water to the people in rural areas - one of the basic requirements for leading a healthy life. But Jammu and Kashmir Government as well as PHE department failed to fulfill the basic need of common masses, locals alleged. Due to the Negligence of PHE department the Villagers of Village Bhagli in Panchayet Darsoo in district udhampur here have spent their entire life waiting for safe drinking water. Hatiza a student of 2nd year ssid that villagers struggle day and night for of water . she added that "It requires three hours to fetch water from the nearby small chashma (natural resource of water ). We have to make several rounds walking two to four kilometres with heavy buckets of water over our heads. It is not only time consuming but affects our lives in a major way, she added . Quasim local resident had a similar story to tell. |
