Schools remain closed as ReT teachers hold protests for salary
5/4/2018 10:59:23 PM
Early Times Report
Rajouri, May 4: Under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum (ReTTF), ReT teachers working under centrally sponsored SSA scheme today held protests for delinking of their salaries and demanded release of pending wages.
Many primary and middle schools remained locked today under several education zones in the district.
Besides release of their pending salaries ReT teachers also demanded delinking of SSA salaries from Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) because teachers under SSA are not getting their salaries on monthly basis and are facing many hardships in meeting their domestic affairs.
"SSA teachers have to wait for 4-6 months to get salary for one / two months which is against the labour laws. Many times our leaders approached the State government but without any results" said Jahangir A Khan , general secretary, JKReTTF.
He added any further delay in the release of pending salary and delay in delinking process will be protested by the JKReTTF which will include 'gherao' of Civil Secretariat on May 7.
"41000 teachers under SSA are not beggars. They need their salary after every month under policy N0.396 of 2000.Government must intervene immediately in this matter" said Khan.
MHRD annually releases an amount of Rs 2300 crore to J&K state under SSA out of which Rs 1676 crore is meant for salary budget and the rest of the amount is utilised in other components of the scheme.
However, the J&K school Education department is facing shortfall of about Rs340 crores annually (against annual requirement of about Rs 1976 cores) to disburse the salaries.
The locking of government school (s) during working hours is an illegal act. The matter is being investigate and will be brought into the notice of higher authorities for further action"said Ch Lal Hussain, CEO.
