HEM upset over rejection of CBI probe demand | Kathua rape-murder | | Early Times Report
Kathua, May 7: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the plea for CBI probe into the Kathua rape and murder case and transferred the trial to Pathankot district in Punjab. The court direction has come as a disappointment to the families of the accused who were hopeful that case will be handed over to the CBI. Meanwhile, the fast unto death by the women to press for their demand for CBI probe entered 35th day on Monday. Talking to Early times, Santosh, sister of Sanji Ram, one of the accused in the case, said, "We welcome the court decision as law abiding citizens but we are shocked by the rejection of our plea". Hindu Ekta Manch (HEM) general secretary Kant Kumar expressed his disappointment over the direction and assured to continue the demand for CBI probe. The court ordered the Pathankot District Judge to conduct the trial and not delegate it to another court. The trial shall be held under the provisions of the Ranbir Penal Code, which is applicable in Jammu and Kashmir. |
