According to the details available with Early Times Burhan group comprised of eleven militants which included, Saddam Padder, Adil Khande, Nissar Pandit, Affaq Bhat, Sabzar Bhat, Anees, Ishfaq Dar, Waseem Mallah and Wasim Shah. One among them Tariq Pandit had surrendered in 2017. An official said that soon after the gunfight commenced in Shopian militants were asked to lay down the arms and surrender but they turned down the offer following which they were eliminated. During the past two days security forces have eliminated eight militants of which three were killed at Chattabal in Srinagar's old city on Saturday. "The space for the militants has been choked. They are being hunted down and killed. They have been given enough chances to surrender. But they have been brainwashed to the hilt," said a source. An insider revealed that Jammu and Kashmir government has been sidelined by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the anti-terror operations are being directly monitored by New Delhi. "Since the day PDP led government has come into power it has been insisting that terrorists should be dealt with a soft hand. In fact it recently devised a surrender policy and offered Rs 6 lakhs as incentive to the terrorists who lay down their arms. On the other hand security agencies were told that they should follow a soft policy," he said. "Due to soft policy of the J&K government many soldiers and political leaders were killed as terrorists had started calling the shots," he added. "The top brass of the security agencies had expressed dismay over the undue political interference in the anti-terror operations. This led to MHA taking control and giving free hand to the security forces has produced positive results an within past one month militancy has always been wiped out from south Kashmir, which during the past two years has emerged as hot bed of militancy. |
