BJP's U-turn emboldens Kashmir separatists, dupes Jammu nationalists
5/28/2018 12:16:00 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 27: In a major U-turn of its "nationalist policy" on Kashmir, the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party at the center has emboldened separatist sentiment in the valley but at the cost of Jammu and Ladakh regions.
More than a U-turn, it looks like a surrender of New Delhi before the separatists that after announcement of Ramzan ceasefire, which is proving a crude joke, the union home ministry said it was ready for talks not only with Hurriyat but also with Pakistan.
The soft stand towards the Kashmir issue is coming at a time when militancy has been on rise and Pakistan has intensified its aggression on civilians in Jammu region.
While around one lakh civilians living along the border areas of Jammu region have recently migrated to live a homeless life elsewhere and around a dozen people lost their lives, the ruling BJP is ready to offer Biryani to Pakistani killers.
It's pertinent to mention that after announcement of ceasefire, the militancy is re-erupting even in the winter capital of Jammu than to talk of Kashmir, which is already a hotbed.
Within a week of the announcement of the ceasefire in Kashmir, a grenade was lobbed on police party in the heart of Jammu, while it was a bloodbath along the borders in the region.
The change in BJP's policy towards Jammu and Kashmir may be due to alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party in the state. But the developments are coming mainly at the cost of Jammu, the region which voted BJP to power.
Given the fact that the BJP didn't win any seats in Kashmir, it was only because of the people of Jammu that the party came to power bagging 25 seats.
But the region, which empowered the BJP has been pushed to severe embarrassment as the nationalist voices are being ignored and the separatists are enjoying a field day in the state.
Observer said for Jammu region, voting BJP to power has only fetched humiliation. "Right from the imposition of the Jaziya on the Mata Vaishnu Devi pilgrimage to the extension of hand of friendship to Hurriyat and proposal of dialogue with Pakistan, every development has come at the cost of Jammu where people have been duped," said Praveen Sharma, a Jammuite.
Amid worsening situation in Kashmir and the separatists being given an upper-hand over nationalists, the BJP has seemingly broken its every promise on Kashmir. And this all is happening at the cost of Jammu, the region which successive regimes ignored!
