Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, June 9: Thousands of teachers and masters working under the centrally sponsored schemes Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) on Saturday staged strong protest demonstration in district headquarters of north Kashmir against the state government for its failure in mitigating their salary issues and denial of 7th pay commission benefits.
According to reports the dejected and depressed teachers, assembled outside the office of Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla and took out a protest rally towards District Development Commissio-ner's office for seeking an end to their miseries and immediate release of their salary ahead of Eid.
Shouting anti-government slogans, like Mehnat Humari Loot Tumari Nahi Chalay Ge, Nahi Chalay Ge, Is Langdi Sarkar Ko Aek Jatka Aur Do, the agitating teachers said inordinate delay in release of their salary has created immense problems for them.
"We are pushed to wall and our families are facing starvation in this holy month of Ramzan. We are unable to get medicines for our sick parents. The delay in release of salary has made life hell and it evident the anti-teacher policies of the government and double standards have exposed them," said Senior Trader Union leader and State Secretary JKTF Mohmmed Rafique Rather who led the protest in Baramulla, adding teachers are facing a tough time in the absence of salary.
"Despite government assured us delinking of SSA salary on the floor of the house but now they deny and betrayed us. We demand immediate release of salaries as per 7th pay commission as teachers were already availed benefits of 5th pay and 6th pay commission. Now how can government deny 7th pay commission," added Rather who was flanked by District President JKTF Mohmmad Amin and Mohammad Altaf Bhat.
The protesting teachers that include RETs, RRTs and confirmed EVs and head teachers threatened massive agitation and state wide lock out schools and offices of the education department if government failed settle the issue of SSA RMSA teachers.
After submitting a memorandum to the DDC Baramulla, the agitating teachers dispersed peacefully.
Meanwhile in Kupwara, a massive protest rally of SSA teachers was organized on Saturday against the government for failing to fulfill their demands.
Under the banners of The United Forum teachers from all zones of Kupwara district marched from Boys higher Secondary School Kupwara to Deputy Commissioner's office where they shouted slogans against the government.
The protesting teachers threatened to lock the schools from 11th of June till 13th if their demands of de-linking their salaries was not fulfilled and salaries were not regularized.
In Bandipora, teachers staged a protest in north Kashmir's Bandipora against the government for failing to fulfill their demands.
The teachers were demanding streamlining of salaries of SSA teachers, implementation of transfer policy, regularization policy and release of pending salaries.
"Despite assurances by the Education Minister nothing has been done for our demands," the protesting teachers said, adding that the government must fulfill their promises and must fulfill our demands at an earliest so that thousands of families could heave a sigh of relief.
"Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has clubbed various schemes including SSA, RMSA and others and has reduced the funds, affecting the salaries of SSA teachers. We demand the government to delink our salaries so that we will get salaries on time," the protesters said.
