JKSPDC's failure to rectify leakage in CHEP-III, causes loss Rs 1 Cr annually | | | Early Times Report jammu, June 9: The failure of the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) to rectify the leakage in Chenani-III Hydroelectric Project, causes a loss of Rs 1 crore annually due to less power generation. Sources told Early Times that the leakage in CHEP-III started since its commission in 2001 during testing process which remains un-rectified and has been causing a loss if one crore annually since 2002. "After wasting years, the company ultimately decided in 2012 to rectify the error and the power house remained shout during 2012. The Company invited tenders for the works in 2013 but had to cancel it in 2014 due to poor response and could not find any taker till date" they said. The works are still pending for award which shows company's incompetency as a result of which Company had to bear loss of generation to the extent of 3 MUs valuing Rs 1 crore annually. Although company has been trying to find the permanent solution of the problem in consultation with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee but till date it failed to get desired result, they informed. They further said that despite the fact that the timely and systemic renovation and maintenance is essential to maintain power generation and reduce generation losses but no serious approach of the JKSPDCL to sort out problems, State suffered power generation. "Moreover, the Board of Directors of Company had sanctioned in 2005 a Renovation, Modernization and Uprating (RMU) Programme for many Hydro Eclectic Power Projects at a cost Rs 208 Cr which were to be completed within a period of one to three years which could not be completed in time period. |
