Early Times Report Jammu, June 11: Ground realties remain unchanged with the change of ministers and governments as tall claims to provide best health care services at PHCs (public health centres) and SDHs (sub district hospitals) got exposed where expired medicines are being provided to gullible people and the health centres are without any staff at times. In a glaring example, an injured person left SDH Kalakote with treatment in absence of hospital staff. "I went to SDH Kalakot on Saturday, to get stitched the wound, as I suffered an injury while performing work at home, but there was no caretaker, in Hospital's causality room", said the person who left hospital without treatment, in the absence of night staff. "I was surprised, when I saw a bottle of expired betadine lotion lying on dressing table with other items including cotton and cotton bandage", he said and added he got infuriated as the betadine lotion has expired on December 2017, as mentioned on the bottle. "I kept the bottle with me and I will file case in State Human Rights Commission, and also knock the door of other law enforcing agencies, as innocent and illiterate people of remote area being deceived on name of health care facilities", he said. "Expiry date is the date up until which the manufacturer guarantees the potency and safety of the drug. After the expiry date, the drug is not to be used and is to be discarded as per the protocol. The medicine that is past its expiration date is no longer effective and is unsafe for use," said an expert and added it also shows other patients might have received the expired drug. |
