Early Times Report
Jammu, June 12: People sitting at the helm of affairs in University of Jammu (JU) have monopolized the entire system and the Chancellor is reduced only to a puppet as the recommendations of University Council finally issued in its meeting held under the chairmanship of Chancellor were not implemented and remained un-achieved during the long three years tenure of Prof Ramji Dass Sharma as Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu.
This was stated by Papinder Singh, Sr Vice-President National Secular Forum (NSF) while addressing a press conference today and lambasted his highhandedness to spurn the decisions taken in the University Council in the overall interest of university and students.
He said that in the 80th University Council held on 25th April 2016, Governor N N Vohra, the Chancellor made a number of recommendations wherein the item no 80.36 a resolution on Empanelment of Legal Counsels was brought before the council to revisit the existing panel of legal Counsels of both the Universities and desirability of engaging the services of reputed legal firms having Advocates of long standing and reputation on their rolls", resolution read and added that the VCs of both the Universities (JU, KU) will get and list the name(s) of senior and reputed Advocate(s) and sent it to the Chancellor for obtaining his approval. "Advocates who shall be empanelled from the list so submitted, initially for a period of three years, further extendable by another two years", the resolution read and same could not be fulfilled.
Similarly item no 80.25 of the Council pertains to One Man One Post, but it could also not be adhered to and VC went ahead out of way to allow some of his favourites to hold two positions disrespecting the recommendations of university council.
The NSF state Sr Vice-president also mentioned that VC made several controversial appointments which should be subjected to probe. He urged the Chancellor (Governor) N N Vohra and Pro-Chancellor (Chief Minister) to order complete audit of the University to unravel the wrong-doings done by the Vice Chancellor.
