Mir promises stars to continue as PCC chief | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 12: Playing trick in an attempt to save his presidency, the incumbent Pradesh Congress Committee chief G A Mir is learnt to have promised party victory on at least three Parliamentary seats from Jammu and Kashmir if he is allowed to continue till the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The assurance in this regard was given by Mir to the party high command during his three-day day tour to Delhi for lobbying to temporarily save his PCC presidency amidst reports that AICC president Rahul Gandhi has made up his mind for a change in J&K leadership of the party. According to the sources in Congress circles, G A Mir has assured the party high command that he could manage victory of the Congress candidates on both the Parliamentary seats in Jammu division and the lone seat from Ladakh. Besides, sources added, Mir has also claimed that Congress may win two of the three seats in Kashmir Valley if he is given free hand in the selection of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, for which both BJP and Congress have started gearing up. However, the critic of G A Mir in Congress party disclosed that the incumbent PCC chief was making false claims before the party high command to avoid his removal from the top post in the next few days. "Since the victory of Congress party in 2019 Lok Sabha elections is the main target of Rahul Gandhi, G A Mir wants to explain the situation by making false claims and thus get a signal for his continuation as PCC president for one more year," explained the sources. Even as both Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni, who play major role in decisions with regard to Jammu Kashmir organizational affairs, are not in favour of continuation of G A Mir as PCC president, sources said that Rahul Gandhi has decided to rethink over his plan to announce changes in Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee as of now. |
