Girl students unlock school building to teach politicians a 'lesson' | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, June 12, 2018: Contrary to precedence, the students of Government Higher Secondary School Verinag Monday unlocked the newly constructed school building to teach politicians a 'lesson' who were delaying its inauguration. Reports said that the students, who were on strike and had boycotted the classes, took the decision after authorities and politicians failed to formally shift their school into the new building. "Girl students stormed into the new building and requested teachers to start teaching them in the new building." Eyewitness told Early Times. They said that the students had earlier requested authorities to shift the school into the new building formally. "Inauguration of the school building by the concerned MLA or the Minister for that matter wasn't objected, however we didn't know the reason why the authorities weren't taken a decision in this regard and why they delaying when the work was completed and education department had expressed willingness to take over the building," they added. As per official records, Girls High School Verinag was upgraded in the year 2003 from High School to Higher Secondary level and work on the new building was started in 2006. Public Works Department-the executing agency- took almost twelve (12) year to complete the building. However after twelve years, the politicians were delaying the inauguration which infuriated students and compelled them to take a decision which finally politicians a lesson. Over 6000 girl students are enrolled in the school but due to the lack of infrastructure and other facilities, the girl students face immense problems. "The building in which school was functioning from last over twelve years was in appalling condition and had only eight rooms," locals said. |
