Jammu, June 30: Even as the rape cases continue to mount in police files in Jammu and Kashmir state, absence of fast track courts to grant speedy justice in such cases, remains a distant dream. While the victims continue to suffer, largely unheard, people continue to press for the need to have such courts, which could bring a sigh of relief for the victims. While the successive regimes are largely accused of having failed to have addressed the burning issue, the public circles are up in arms, ready to fight for the cause. The people say unless the society unites for the cause, things will continue to be messy. Varinder Thakur, Advocate said "Unless the people of Jammu and Kashmir look at the issue as a collective concern, rape victims will continue to suffer unheard." Arvinder Bandral Advocate said: "A society which is indifferent towards absence of fast track courts for rape victims can never be expected to do something commendable for the benefit of the women folk in general." Sumit Nayyar Advocate said: "Imagine the plight of the victim of such a barbaric crime, who instead of getting speedy justice, has to live in suffocation for years, waiting for the day when the culprits will be punished." |
