One Militant Killed in Encounter in Kupwara | | | Early Times Report
Kupwara, July 12: One militant was killed during an operation in Kupwara area of Jammu and Kashmir, reported on Thursday. The operation is still underway and more details are awaited. According to media reports, defence ministry sources said that the militant was brought down in the Sadu Ganga forest area during an encounter with the army. An AK-47 rifle was recovered from the slain militant. On Wednesday security personnel was killed in the encounter between security forces and terrorists in Handwara area. On Tuesday, two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists, including a Pakistani national, were killed in an encounter. Earlier on Wednesday security personnel was killed and another was left critically injured in the same encounter between security forces and terrorists in Handwara area of Kupwara district. The security forces had launched a search operation in the Badi Behak and Sangal areas following information of terrorists hiding there. On Tuesday, two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists, including a Pakistani national, were killed in an encounter while a civilian died and 20 others sustained injuries during clashes with security forces near the scene of the gunbattle in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. As per a police official, a joint patrol of the security forces had launched searches in the Kundallan area of the district in the early hours on Tuesday following credible leads about the presence of terrorists there. As the searches were going on, militants hiding inside the house fired upon the search party, who in their guarded response fired back, leading to an encounter. |
