When PDP leader's daughter duo enjoyed windfall of Sufarish | One sister got 2 flats, other Tourism contracts | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 12: The family of a senior Peoples Democratic Party leader from south Kashmir, who was removed from the council of ministers some months back, had been getting illegally benefitted by the then government, officials said. While the general perception was that the PDP leader, who is also a close relative of the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had been sidelined, after the induction of Tasaduq Mufti as a minister in the Cabinet, the actual story looks different. While one of the daughters of this PDP leader was "illegally" given two flats to live at plush Gupkar, which mainly houses the VVIPs and the VIPs, the other daughter had been granted contracts in the Tourism department. Official sources said a minister in the then PDP led government had got "publicity contracts" granted in favor of the firm, which benefitted the daughter of the senior PDP leader. Sources said the contract was granted to them through a senior official in the Tourism department of Kashmir. "The official had been working as the middleman for a PDP minister and several illegal contracts were approved by him to please his masters," the sources said. The sources said the official in question was "illegally" elevated to a prominent post in Tourism department so that he takes care of the "personal interests of the mantri ji". Sources said the contract which was granted to the firm close the daughter of the PDP leader was done without the formal approval. "The project worth millions was allotted without any formal tendering. Let th government probe it," admitted a lower rung official in the tourism department on the condition of anonymity. Meanwhile the sources said the complaint of the allegedly illegal allotment of contracts in Tourism department was being taken to the Raj Bhawan. "Governor Sahib promptly got the orders of illegal allotment of Waqf Board flats revoked, so we have decided to take this complaint to Raj Bhawan as well so that justice is done in cases of both the sisters," said some civil society activists. Despite repeated attempts the PDP leader or his daughters couldn't be contacted for comments. |
