Jammu, Jul 12: Six alleged drug peddlers, including a policeman, were arrested and over 75 kg of poppy seized from them in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said today. The policeman along with an associate were arrested after 50 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from their vehicle at the Murgi Chowk in Gangyal area of Jammu this afternoon, the police officials said. They said a police team was busy checking when a private vehicle coming from Narwal towards Kunjwani Chowk tried to break the 'naka' but was chased and stopped. During questioning, the duo revealed they had brought the consignment from Kashmir and were planning to sell it among the drug addicts in the city, the officials said adding more arrests and recoveries were expected. Meanwhile, one Harjeet Singh was arrested in Dharab, on the outskirts of Jammu city, after 20 kilograms of poppy was recovered from an oil tanker he was driving, they said. Two more persons - Ajit and Tasreem Kumar - were held in Mottey village of R S Pura in Jammu district after 3.5 kg of poppy straw was found in their possession, they added. Another person, Waseem Akram, was arrested from Domail in Doda district for carrying three kilograms of poppy, they said. |
