Security breach at Farooq Abdullah's Jammu house, youth shot dead after he rams car into gate | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 4: A 26-year-old former gun dealer from Poonch district was shot dead by CRPF personnel after he forcibly entered the residence of former chief minister and National Conference leader Dr Farooq Abdullah at Bhatindi in Jammu on Saturday morning. The National Conference leader, who has the Z-plus category security, was not at home when the incident took place. Police found an Aadhaar card and driving license of the deceased that identified him as Sayeed Murfad Shah son of Imzad Hussain Shah of the border district of Poonch and presently staying with his family at Chinore on the outskirts of Jammu city. Murfad Ali Shah's father runs a gun shop at Bantalab in Jammu. The deceased had shifted to Jammu with his family in the wake of police busting a fake gun licence racket allegedly involving some revenue officials. While some officials were arrested in the case, Shah had reportedly fled to Gulf. He returned after some time and closed his gun business in Mendhar town, sources said. According to details provided by sources, the deceased rammed his car into the gate meant for VIP visitors and reached the lounge. As none of the residents were at home, there were few CRPF personnel present at the gate. When the security tried to stop him, a scuffle ensued and he managed to reach the lobby. As Shah started breaking window panes and other furniture inside the house, the CRPF personnel present on the spot shot him dead. The deceased was unarmed and nothing incriminating was recovered from him. The deceased's father Imzad Hussain Shah said that he had gone to the gym in the morning. "The CRPF personnel should not have shot him dead as he had no militant link. He might have been under the influence of some intoxicants," he added. Meanwhile, people at Chinore held a demonstration in protest over the killing of Murfad Shah demanding probe. Meanwhile, dozens of relatives of the youth, who was shot dead by security forces after he forcibly drove into the residence of former chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar on Saturday, staged protests demanding an inquiry into the incident, officials said. On hearing about the incident, Shah's father and other family members reached the spot and demanded a probe into the incident, officials added. After the body was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) for autopsy, scores of acquaintances of the deceased, originally hailing from Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district, assembled there. They prevented doctors from performing an autopsy for several hours and asked why an "innocent unarmed person" was killed, officials said. While the autopsy of the deceased was underway at the hospital, another large group of protesters blocked the main road at Chinore, they said. The agitated protesters burnt tyres and raised slogans against security forces and the national media for "misleading reporting", the officials said. "An intruder gate-crashed into the house of Abdullah, had a scuffle with security personnel and attempted to snatch a rifle from an officer (before he was killed)," Inspector General of Police (Jammu) S D Singh Jamwal said. He said the youth was alone in the vehicle and an investigation was on to ascertain how he managed to reach the house without being challenged. |
