Brick kilns to remain shut during winters to increase visibility around Airport | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Aug 10: With government failing to upgrade the infrastructure at the Srinagar International Airport, the authorities are going to shut the brick kilns around the airport during the winter months as a measure to increase the visibility. Since 2013, the idea of starting night landing at Srinagar airport has been in doldrums after the former government led by the then Omar Abdullah announced it. However, the government has now decided to start night flights. The Indian Air Force and Defence Ministry gave a nod to the operation of night flights at Srinagar Airport following public pressure and the state government has decided to start night operations from lone airport in the summer capital very soon. The flights often get cancelled at the Srinagar Airport during winters when there is poor visibility. An official said that night flights will be started from Srinagar Airport very soon. He said AAI had made possible all the arrangement to start this service for Kashmir. "Still we want that visibility has to be improved in winters." He said that they have asked the state government to shut the brick kilns during the winter months. "Their closure will increase the visibility during the winter months around the airport," he said. The state government has decided shut the brick kilns in close proximity to the airport from November. "These brick kilns will not operate and remain closed during the months from November to March as the smoke emanated by then reduces the visibility in the area," the official said. An official posted at the DC Budgam said that they have issued orders to shut the brick kilns around the airport during the winter months. "Installation facility for night landing is job of the Airport Authority of India. We can take measures at the district level whatever measures are required to increase the visibility. Lets hope that closure of brick kilns helps in increasing the visibility," the official said.
