Vested interests launch misinformation campaign against MR vaccination | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Sept 27: Immediately after the launch of MR vaccination campaign in Rajouri district, health officials are facing many obstacles as rumour mongers and vested interests have unleashed a misinformation drive against the initiative. Such is the impact of the propaganda that the teachers at middle school at Saire under Kandi health block locked the school at 11.40 am just ahead of the visit of health team for administering the vaccination. BMO, Kandi reported that people at many places were not supporting the MR campaign due to misinformation spread by the rumour mongers who were also booked by the police. Ved Parkash, ADC Kotranka today convened the meeting of the in-charges of the schools, headmasters, nodal teachers, and doctors and expressed his anguish over some unscrupulous elements spreading hoax against MR vaccination campaign. Health officials claimed that impact of the rumours was minimal and efforts were afoot to bring the campaign back on the track. Dr Iqbal Malik , BMO has appealed to the district administration to take steps to make the MR campaign a success. In Darhal health block also, Health official complained about the non-cooperation by the parents / people at few places. District administration has decided to depute medical teams to conduct awareness camps in favour of MR vaccination. According to District Information Officer (DIO) several teams visited many places under Darhal health block to motivate and sensitize the people about the benefits of MR Vaccination. M.A Asad, DDC has appealed to the parents and the people not to pay any heed to negative propaganda against MR Vaccination by some vested interests. Medical helplines have already been established in the offices of the CMO & Deputy CMO, Medical Superintendent District hospital and in all the tehsils of the districts" said DDC. He added lot of technical expenses and funds are required for such vaccination and the government of India is providing free of cost vaccines for welfare of the people and they should avail the chance. |
