Students given 'opportunity' to stage protests | Police 'mishandling' Srinagar situation | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 27: Even as police is expected to be more active in the twin capitals of the state, the cops have come under scanner for "poor policing" in Srinagar. While an early morning encounter in Noor Bagh locality here that left one civilian dead, pushed the city to chaos amid restrictions in various areas, the authorities didn't announce closure of educational institutions, as generally happens during such situations across Kashmir. As a result, no sooner the schools and colleges opened, there were protests incited allegedly by the Pakistani handlers through their stooges at some of the campuses. At Kashmir University, it gave the miscreants opportunity to incite students to take to streets. Student staged a protest on the campus of Kashmir University "against the killing of a civilian during a CASO in Qamarwari." Chanting pro aazadi and anti government slogans, the students from various departments came out of their classes and assembled in the premises of Humanities department to protest. The students boycotted the classes. The students kept chanting slogans against the government till the news spread to other areas and other educational institutions, some of which also took out protest rallies. The parents of school-going children had to face tough time as some of the private schools voluntarily shut down their institutions to avoid protests. Some of the aggrieved parents blamed the police for failing to take requisite measures that avoid inconvenience to the common people. A retired police official told Early Times, it was mandatory for the police to have announced closure of educational institutions for the day. "The CASO and killing had taken place in the wee hours so the police had ample time to inform the civil administration to keep the schools and colleges closed. But unfortunately this important issue was ignored," the former official told Early Times. Sources said the RaJ Bhawan has taken a serious note of allegedly callous approach of the police force. Despite repeated attempts the concerned officials couldn't be contacted for comments. |
