Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 29: The state BJP seems so insecure after resentment of people against the party for its sheer failure in last government that now its candidates in Urban Local Bodies elections are using intimidation tactics to force independent candidates to pull out of the contest. Sources told Early Times that few days ago in ward No. 1 of Jammu Municipal Corporation, which is reserved for women candidates, the BJP candidate has started feeling anxious about her winning chances ever since an independent candidate filed her nomination from the same ward due to her popularity among the residents. "Feeling frustrated, a brother of the BJP candidate indulged in verbal duel with the husband of the independent candidate few days ago, that too at her residence, and threatened him to ask his wife to withdraw the nomination from the ULB elections," sources said. They said the brother of the BJP candidate used foul language against the husband-wife duo and created high voltage drama in the street, which prompted the neighbours to come out of their houses and condemn the misbehaviour of the brother of BJP candidate. If sources are to be believed, the brother of BJP candidate is said to be a government employee despite the fact that participating in any political affair by a government employee is an offence as per Service Rules. Yet, he was seen campaigning in favour of his sister. "There are three candidates contesting from ward No. 1, including BJP, Congress and an independent. The independent candidate is said to be well-educated with a Master's in Education and people have reposed faith in her and were of the view that a well-educated candidate must be elected so that their problems will be addressed," sources added. |
