Kashmiris committing 'suicide' by going near encounter sites | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 21: Despite repeated warnings and advisories issued by the government people in south Kashmir have not stopped going near the encounter sites. On Sunday six civilians were killed after the encounter between the security forces and the militants ended at Laroo village in south Kashmir's Kulgam district. Three militants were also killed in the gun battle. The Governor's Advisor K Vijay Kumar and the Director General of Police Dilbag Singh regretted the loss of civilian lives in a blast near the encounter site and reiterated that civilians should stay away from the gunfight sites. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "It has become a trend in south Kashmir that whenever any encounter takes place miscreants provoke the people to pelt stones at the security forces so that they could help the militants escape. On a few occasions militants have managed to give a slip to the security forces but most of the times the militants get killed and the people who come out to save them either get injured or lose their lives in the cross firing." Recalling the statement of the Army Chief General Bipin Rawat that anyone who ventures near the encounter site and tries to help the terrorists would be treated as anti-national, the analyst said, "If people want to save their lives they should take such warnings seriously. They cannot ignore it and expect that nothing will happen," the analyst added. Reports said that as soon as the gunfight between the militants and security forces ended at Laroo village on Sunday morning and troops started withdrawing scores of people after pelting stones at the security forces rushed to the encounter site. "One of the live shells exploded which led to the killing of six civilians and injuries to more than 40 people," reports added. A Kashmir watcher said, "People who rush to the encounter sites are just committing a suicide as they don't know from which side they would get hit. It has been observed that whenever a gunfight ends people rush to the spot just to have a look. Today it proved deadly as the live shell went off. Security Forces on many occasions have appealed people to stay away from these places till the entire area is sanitized. But their appeals seem to have fallen into deaf ears." He said, "It's unfortunate that people of Kashmir are choosing death over life. After any such incident the Pak stooges active in the Valley put the blame on security forces as they have no courage to tell Pakistan that the terrorism being supported by it is killing Kashmiris everyday and Valley has been turned into a battle field." |
