Defying Shoora committee ban marriages go musical | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Kishtwar, Oct 31: Two years after the ban by Shoora Committee, musical nights have returned to Kishtwar. During the past few days scores of musical nights were organised during marriage functions. Singers including Rashid Jahinger, Nassem-ul-Haq, Waseem-ul-Haq, Abid Bashir and others performed much to the pleasure of the people. The Majlis-e-Shoora, an amalgam of religious bodies and Imams of various mosques headed by Imam Jamia Masjid had imposed the ban on such functions two years ago. The social reform movement evoked massive response during the past two years but the ban has now been defied. As reported by "Early Times", Majlis-e-Shoora Kishtwar on 31-10-2016 held the meeting at Jamia Masjid Kishtwar under the Chairmanship of its President Farooq Ahmed Kichloo, Imam Jamia Masjid in which more than 70 persons including religious scholars participated and termed singing and dancing during marriage functions as un-Islamic. The Shoora had warned that no imam would perform nikah of such families who indulge in such un-Islamic practices. Pertinent to mention, a musical night costs around Rs 80,000. However, music lovers are happy over the development. According to them, such events add to the beauty of a marriage function. The Shoora had urged women not to venture into markets for purchasing goods. It had also urged the tuition centres to make separate seating arrangements for girl students. |
