Militancy increased in Mehbooba's tenure: Governor Malik | 'Stone pelters got away easily in PDP-BJP Govt' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 31: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has for the first time broken lull over the coalition of BJP and PDP in the state, saying that under Mehbooba Mufti's command, the militant recruitment increased and stone pelters were enjoying impunity. In a recent interview with a New Delhi-based news channel, Malik said he admits the fact that when Mehbooba was the CM of the state, the recruitment of militants witnessed a spike and also those pelting stones too found it easier to attack the security forces. Such a revelation has been made for the first time since Governor Malik assumed office in the state and has also given a subtle hint at the possible reasons about why BJP in New Delhi was compelled to withdraw its support to the PDP and topple the government in the state. "I have not gone to Jammu and Kashmir with the BJP's bandwagon. I will work as per the constitution, and as far as the previous government in the state is concerned, there must be some reason that the support from the PDP was withdrawn. And I admit the fact that while Mehbooba Mufti was the CM of the state, the militant recruitment got increased and stone pelters too got away easily while pelting the stones. And what we are reaping at present is what the coalition did in the state, but at that time those who were in alliance partners in the government should have reacted to the mistakes being done. Today, I am not answerable to their wrongs," Governor Malik said in the interview. The Governor's remarks have caused jittery within the PDP that has been targeted by the government over its policies while running the sensitive state. The PDP meanwhile has been upping its ante against the Governor, accusing him of serving a particular political interest. On October 26, PDP's senior leader and former minister Naeem Akhtar stated that it its unfortunate that the decisions being taken by the Governor administration are motivated by some particular political interest and the orders that were issued for peoples' welfare by the PDP government are being reversed and dishonoured. Two days later, the PDP again targeted the Governor administration, stating that it "presided over the most farcical election in the state which have been fought purely though use of money." "Even for inducing people to file nominations and voting, every vote was purchased and that is the matter of common knowledge that every vote that was cast, of the 40 thousand odd votes, was purchased and sold. And that is how the government of India and some political parties have introduced corruption at the grass roots as a state policy to divert attention from political realities," the party said in a statement. Again, on Wednesday, the party has once again stated that the Governor administration is trying to defame the vital institutions of the state. What remains to be seen is whether the wrongs committed by the PDP when it was in power could be rectified by the anti-Governor rants the party is making with each passing day. |
