BJP's dream of regaining power shattered, Sajad Lone left guessing | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 21: Finally the cat is out of the bag National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress decided to join the hands to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir. It proved to be major setback for the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone, who had been assigned the job to cobble up the numbers to form the new government in the state. Sources told Early Times that BJP and the PDP rebels were at the verge of striking a deal to form the government in J&K but difference of opinion over a few issues delayed the process. "When BJP was holding deliberations with the PDP rebels the talks didn't materialize due to both the parties not reaching on consensus over Chief Minister's post." There were speculations that BJP had relented and had agreed upon allowing someone from Kashmir to hold Chief Minister's post. "Senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig coming out in open and raising a banner of revolt against the Peoples Democratic Party has put the PDP in a tight spot. PDP wants to keep the party intact by joining hands with NC and Congress. The PDP knows that power only could keep the party legislators together," said an analyst. Decision of the NC, Congress and PDP to join hands created ripples in the BJP circles. Former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta took these parties head on by stating that these parties have joined the hands on the "directions of Pakistan" and the decision in this regard was taken in Dubai. A Kashmir watcher said that Governor Satya Pal Malik had the "last laugh" as he dissolved the Assembly. "BJP's game has been reversed and its tall claims about Jammu and Kashmir having a Chief Minister from Jammu region stand punctured. On the other hand credibility of Sajad Lone, who was being projected as the new Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has been dented as he failed to get the requisite numbers," he added. Another politician said that BJP leaders should stop "day dreaming" about power as their tryst with the power has ended. "Dream of Sajad Lone, who has just got two assembly seats, to head the state stands shattered," he added. |
