Delay in release of 50% budget hits developmental works | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 23: The undue delay in release of balance budget by government has hit various development activities across the state. Sources told Early Times that for the past two years the budget is being preponed by the successive governments so that all development activities is done on time, but after release of 50 percent of budget the balance amount has not been released so far. "The works under progress are at standstill and awaiting their completion due to non-availability of funds. The 50 percent budget was released in March this year for development activities, and the month of November has come to an end, but till date rest of the amount has not been released by the government," sources said. They further informed that there are many districts in Jammu region which are hilly and snowbound where development works can be done only in just few months due to cold harsh weather. Similar is situation with Kashmir and Ladakh region where development activities are done up to October, and in this situation if funds are delayed, no activity can be done in later months. "The Public Work (Road and Building) department which carries out majority of the development works in terms of creation of infrastructure is facing huge hardship to carry out works across the state due to delay in releasing funds," sources said, adding that the lack of monitoring system on the expenditure of funds on various works is also a big loophole which is being exploited by the various departments. |
