A vote for BJP would be a vote for Sajad Lone
Jammu the unfortunate region
11/23/2018 11:34:09 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 23: The Governor of J&K SP Malik dissolved the assembly on November 21 and the Kashmir-based leaders of the so-called "Grand Alliance", including Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah and Ghulam Ahmad Mir all dismissed as murder of democracy the dissolution of the assembly. Their reaction was on expected lines. Hence, it is hardly necessary to report what these Kashmiri leaders did and said on November 21, 22 and 23 and what the Governor said to defend his decision taken as per the law on the subject on November 21 and 22.
What is important for the people of Jammu province right now is the rise of a new situation under which their vote for the BJP would a vote for Sajad Lone of People's Conference. The People's Conference had just two MLAs in the dissolved assembly. In 2015, the BJP again and again said that the PDP was the largest party in the newly elected assembly with 28 seats and, hence, the BJP, which had 25 MLAs, shook hands with the PDP and offered the post of CM to the PDP for a full term of 6 years to avoid constitutional crisis in the state. But what it did on November 21
But what it did on November 21 was just shocking. It was the second betrayal of the Jammu mandate. The case in point is the claim of the People's Conference (PC) chief and former minister Sajad Lone that he also had the required numbers to form coalition government in the state, but he couldn't stake his claim as the fax machine at the Governor's residence didn't receive his fax to that effect. Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP had also said the same while questioning the Governor. She, like other leaders of the grand alliance, in fact, accused the Governor of murdering democracy.
What did Sajad Lone say while staking claim for forming coalition government? He said that he enjoyed the support of all the 25 BJP MLAs and he also had the support of "18 other MLAs". The Sajad Lone's PC had only two MLAs. In other words, he claimed that he had the support 44 MLAs in the 87-member J&K assembly. What does all this show? It only showed that the BJP was more than willing to barter Jammu to fulfill its insatiable lust for power and profit.
The fact that it was willing to accept the 2-MLA party chief from Kashmir Sajad Lone as the state's new CM only proves that it has no regard for the people of Jammu province which gave it a status and that it could go to any extent to hurt them and hurt their interests. The question is: Who will the people of Jammu now vote for? They hate the politics, the NC, the PDP and the Congress-style and that's was the reason that they defeated all the three Kashmir-centric outfits and voted for the BJP. It's difficult to say if the BJP would be able to convince the people of Jammu province and Ladakh region that it is a party with a difference and that it really believed in the empowerment of the people of these two regions.
Why should the people of Jammu province vote for a party that sells their mandate to promote its own vested interests? Will the BJP tell the people of Jammu province why it offered the post of CM to Sajad Lone, when he had 2 MLAs and it had 25? Will the people of Jammu province forgive the BJP for its another act of betrayal? Only time will tell.
