Anti- reservation voices resonate in KU | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Nov 23: In a blatant example of how the reservation kills the merit, a student of Psychology Department at Kashmir University who secured 16 points was dropped from the selection list while a reserved category candidate who secured just one point was selected. The cutoff mark for the selection was 17 points. "It has been shocking. It is completely injustice with open merit candidates who toil hard to qualify the test. The reserved category students who hardly study half of the syllabus qualify it easily," said a candidate who wished not to be named. The general line candidates from other departments had similar woes to narrate, who claimed their one year will go waste due to this "disparity". The dropped out students said that these reserved category candidates come from well to do families and live in posh areas of city. "The government needs to review its reservation policy to save future of many students who work hard but are dropped just because they belong to so called upper classes," she said. A student of Kashmir University's MBA department said, "We don't bat for complete abolition of reservation but this facility should be for the people who actually deserve it." Basit, a reserved category student, while acknowledging the concerns expressed by the unreserved students said, "There are black sheep in our community who live a magnificent life and still enjoy reservation in every sector." He said that government should start revising the conditions to grant reservations from caste to economic status." While speaking to a legal expert, he said, "The reservation act is bad law. Despite the candidates are living in good condition in city and their children are studying in best schools but still they can enjoy reservations." |
