Ring Road Kissan Sangarsh Samiti urge for repeal of Land Acquisition Act 1934 | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 19: Ring road Kissan Sangharsh Samiti members held press conference here today urging the government to repeal 84 years old Jammu and Kashmir Land Acquisition Act 1934. Addressing the media, RTI movement activist Balvinder Singh said that we sympathetically urge government to resolve the demand of land loosing small and marginalized farming community whose land are being acquired for ring/semi road projects at Jammu and Kashmir. He added that they are being forcibly deprived of their already meager land holdings without any reasonable compensation. And in spite of repeated requests for compensating the farmers as per the Central Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (RTFCLARR Act 2013), till date no heed has been made by the government. Balvinder Singh urged the government to repeal 84 years old Jammu and Kashmir Land Acquisition Act 1934 and bring in new legislation in the state which should be at par with the central law that is RTFCLARR Act 2013. "The law will clear the disparity between the compensation paid to farmers and people in other states of our country and compensation paid to the farmers and people of our state", he said. The land under acquisition is highly valuable (4 to 5 crops) multi corps agriculture land which is being acquired for a song less than 1/30th and even less of the market value. This acquisition is bound to push the farming community to the brink of starvation. And now we stress the government to resolve the points of sufferance. |
