Now former PDP leader speaks against financial rewards for security forces | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 19: A former Cabinet minister who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party now has issues with the security forces getting rewards for braving encounters with militants in Kashmir. The former PDP leader who was sacked from the ministry for his comments that "Kashmir is not a political issue" has changed his colors, all of a sudden. Ahead of the much expected Assembly elections in the state in the coming months, the politician said that there was a need to end encounters. The said person who was accused by separatists has having being their "chamcha" in 1990s is now out to show his colors. In an article for a New Delhi based daily, the politician has said that there was a well-laid-out "financial reward system" in place for killing a militant. He said whenever security personnel kill a militant, they get a big cash award. He said the money given to the security personnel for killing a militant was like supari that is paid to the underworld dons to get someone killed. He said there were also rewards for the informers for the security force and thus there was a kind of alleged greed that leads to encounters in the valley. The politician in his write up had no mention of how many security force personnel got killed in the encounters as if killing of the jawans in not any issue. Sources said the said politician is planning to get public sympathy ahead of the polls that he wants to keep the Hurriyat conference in good humor. Sources said the politician has been in touch with some of the separatist leaders looks ahead to get their "secret support" for the next elections. Meanwhile it was reliably learnt that the security forces including police and Army have taken a serious note of his remarks. "These politicians don't think about or comment on how many of our jawans have lost their lives in such encounters. Now these politicians are working as over ground workers," said a police official on the condition of anonymity. Despite repeated attempts the said politician couldn't be contacted for comments. |
