Kashmiri migrants demand political reservation in state legislature, LS-RS | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 19: Demanding Kashmir migrants be declared as internally displaced people and political reservation on five seats in State Legislative Assembly, four in State Legislative Council and one each in Lok Sabha (LS) and Rajya Sabha (RS) so that they could be provided with overall empowerment in issues focusing economic, , social and justice besides giving them own political status to elect their public representatives. The demand was raised during the meeting of Kashmiri Migrants held under the chairmanship of its President Er Ramesh Chander Mahajan. The meeting was organized after conducting a door to door campaign with migrants in Jammu. In the meeting, the Kashmiri migrants recalled the miseries faced since 1990. Migrants alleged that the successive state as well as centre governments has totally failed to rehabilitate the migrants. The governments have regularly ignored the grievances of the Kashmiri migrants adding that as if "our presence is nowhere". We are unfortunate that the migrants community has not been extended right of political reservation as such their voice could not be raised by any elected MLA/Parliament member in the J&K State Legislature as well as in the Parliament of India and hence 2.50 lakhs of Kashmiri migrants families, who had to left their homes and hearth in 90s, are being kept at the mercy of God. |
