Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 26 : As a cold wave intensified across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, Jammu city recorded the season's coldest night at 3.5 degrees Celsius, the Met said. Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine base camp Katra recorded 4.2, Batote minus 1.3, Bannihal minus 3 and Bhaderwah minus 2.1 as the minimum temperatures, the Met said. Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley and the second coldest in Jammu and Kashmir where minimum temperature was minus 9.4 degrees followed by Drass minus 21.7 degrees. Leh town in Ladakh region registered the minimum temperature of minus 17.1, while Kargil recorded minus 14.4 degrees Celsius. Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 6.7 while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 5.9 degrees Celsius. The night temperature in Pahalgam - the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra - settled at a low of minus 7.9 degrees. Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 6.4 degrees Celsius last night. |
