Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Dec 26: Sajad Gani Lone led Peoples Conference is apparently following the footsteps of the people whom he accused of promoting and projecting family politics. The same became evident with Lone's nomination of his party's candidate for the next Lok Sabha elections. The Peoples Conference Chairman took to micro-blogging site Twitter and announced the name of Peoples Conference candidate for the next year's parliamentary polls. The candidate is no more than a brother of a former minister who joined the Peoples Conference only this month.
Irfan Raza Ansari would be the Peoples Conference candidate from Srinagar-Budgam-Ganderbal Lok Sabha seat. Irfan is the younger brother of former minister and former legislator of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Imran Raza Ansari. He is a novice in the field of politics, but still then he has been chosen as Peoples Conference candidate and that too in a parliament election.
"The core group of @JKPC_met and decided to field Mr. Irfan Raza Ansari as its Parliamentary candidate from Srinagar Parliamentary constituency for the 2019 General elections. I wish him best of luck. And hope that he will make a brilliant young parliamentarian. Time for change," Lone wrote on Twitter.
It would be in place to mention here that Imran and Irfan are sons of former politician Late Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari. During his political career Moulvi Iftikhar was associated with National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and Congress from time to time. He also served as minister in National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party governments on different occasions.
The nomination of Irfan Ansari as the Peoples Conference candidate for next year's Lok Sabha election is being seen as a major departure of party policy since the party chairman has been accusing NC and PDP leadership of projecting their kith and kin and giving them important responsibilities in the party as well as government.
Pertinently the nomination of Irfan Ansari was not announced in the press conference addressed by Lone and Imran Ansari here today. During the press conference former police officer and 2014 assembly election candidate for Uri of PDP, Raja Aijaz Ali announced his decision to join the Peoples Conference.
Irfan Ansari is basically involved with the business interests of his family mainly the showrooms of automobiles and also with the franchisee of leading telecom company airtel in the Srinagar city. He is yet to learn nuances of politics and given this fact his nomination as Peoples Conference candidate for 2019 Lok Sabha election is bound to create ripples among the political circles of the state.
