No harassment of women is needed | | | Mark the difference between the President’s rule and the democratic Government. In the Democratic setup allegations, though strong, take a back, seat while claims abound in democratic Government. Governor Satya Pal Malik has asked Inspector General of Police (IGP) S P Pani to probe whether a woman of Patipora, Pulwama has been harassed and her clothes torn by policemen. He has directed police not to harass women relatives of militants and told them that any questioning should be done as per normal practice only in the presence of a lady constable. In a statement, Governor Malik said it has been widely reported in media that three close relatives of a militant were allegedly arrested and harassed by the J&K Police and it was alleged that the clothes of lady, who was one of the persons arrested, were also torn. "It is clarified that there are standing general and specific instructions to all police officers and staff on not harassing families of militants. This is being followed meticulously in most circumstances. However, there could be a situation where a few relatives of a militant are questioned by police under due process of law so as to obtain details of a militant's whereabouts. This is done very rarely and only on the basis of specific information," he said. Not to talk of the separatists even the mainstream politicians do berate the police for harassing relations of militants. And this is what Mehbooba Mufti has done Governor, S.P. Malik, has gone to the extent of telling security forces not kill terrorists but end terrorism with killing terrorists. There even instructions to the Indian soldiers not to cross the LoC and take any action against the Pak troops. Whenever, Pakistani troops resort to ceasefire violence retaliate it from the Indian bases. The troops have been told to give an effective reply to even minor ceasefire violations so that Pakistan is aware of the might of Indian troops. As far the harassment of women are concerned it is not befitting any policemen Yes harassment is bound to take place if women fail to inform he police about the whererabouts of any militant. The woman, rather the mother of the militant, know the whereabouts of her son or sons. But when mot hers are reticent the police have to adopt strong measures to know about the whereasbouts of militants. |
