Vested interested trying to delay academic session in new medical colleges

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 3: Senior doctors and officials of the Health and Medical Education department have alleged that a few doctors with vested interest were trying hard to delay the process of starting academic session at new medical colleges in 2019 as promised by PS H&ME as well as the Governor's Advisor.
They said that in last week of December 2018, five teams of Medical Council of India (MCI) had visited the sites of all these five upcoming Medical Colleges and pointed out major deficiencies including infrastructure, faculty, paramedical and other facilities.
If official sources are to be believed, the inspection was expected to be conducted in February 2019 as per communications reportedly but the same was conducted in the last month of 2018 which raised many eyebrows. "The concerned authorities informed to the Department of Health and Medical Education as well as MCI about the arrangements, which were being done to start the session in this year (2019) and required infrastructure, faculty members, books and other material will be completed by ending of January," official sources told Early Times.
Sources said that Governor's Advisor and Principal Secretary of Health and Medical Education Department are very much interested to start these Medical Colleges from this year and are working hard to full fill aspirations of those districts; as students and patients shall be benefited and shall not have to move to other states for studying. But a few doctors, who have already spoiled the existing Medical College Jammu, now leaving no stone unturned to misguide the members of the MCI as well as the administrative department. This is probably due to the fact that neither the Principals nor the Project Director of these colleges are giving any heed to the absurd suggestions of these sycophants who have almost destroyed the GMC Jammu.
It has been learnt that total 160 Registrar/ Demonstrators in different Non-clinical and Clinical Specialities viz Bio-Chemistry, Microbiology, Pathology, Gynae, Orthopaedics, ENT, Dermatology, Anaesthesia, Radiology, and others have been selected for new five medical colleges so far. In addition 59 faculty members have been selected through Public Service Commission (PSC) in different specialties for the Colleges viz Anantnag (16), (13) faculty members selected for Medical College Baramulla, Doda (8), Kathua (14), and Rajouri (8) on fast track in an attempt to start first batch of MBBS students in the year 2019 itself.
Now the question is that one the one hand administrative machinery is leaving no stone unturned to start these new GMCs in 2019 itself but on the other hand sabotage sycophants for vested interests are also leaving no stones unturned to get the process of starting first batch of MBBS delayed.
When the matter was taken up with Principal Secretary Atal Dulloo, he claimed that the officials of the department, as well as Principals of the new Medical Colleges, were working hard to start the session from this year and he hoped that session will be started.
On being asked was the visit of MCI planned by few doctors, he replied that MCI visits the site as per their wish.
"But million dollar question is that are the sycophants bigger or the administrative machinery is bigger. If they succeed in manipulating the things as per their whims and fancies; than GMCs for sure are not going to be started in 2019. Will the people at the helm of administrative affairs cut these sycophants to their size in the larger interest of the profession and the patient care?" sources asked.
