New Delhi takes serious note of Guv's remarks | 'No chance of package for militants' | |
Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 27: New Delhi has taken a "serious note" of Governor SP Malik's remarks that killing of militants in Kashmir during the ongoing operation all out pains him and that killing militants will not end the "real problem". Sources said there was no possibility of New Delhi announcing package for militants at this point of time. A day after the Governor made the controversial remarks sources said the union government has decided to discuss the matter threadbare. Sources said the meeting was likely to be held next week after the Republic Day celebrations are over and that there was a possibility that Malik would be called to the national capital. Sources said the remarks have stoked a controversy in the wake of operation all out and also the upcoming 2019 elections. "Just a day after Baramulla became a militant free district, the remarks caused a stir. When the union elections are round the corner, the central government cannot afford such statements which can have an impact on the elections," said a source in the corridors of power. Sources said various national parties have taken a serious note of the statement and have raised questions that if ahead of elections the BJP government would announce any package for militants. A day after Baramulla became militant free district after the killing of three militants in an encounter there, Governor said such killings were giving him pain. The Governor had said the police are doing a commendable job, "but trust me, every single killing in Kashmir, even that of militants, pains me". He said he wished that the youth shun the path of militancy and get back to their families. He had said that the administration is also trying to formulate some fresh package for the rehabilitation of militants. "I think militancy is not in guns but in brains. We're trying to remove the militancy that is impacting brains," he had said. Malik had, however, complimented forces for "working tirelessly to protect their land". |
