Jammu, Feb 4: Defying orders of High Court, some police officials posted in the Jammu District are following a new modus operandi to mint money from drivers of tractor trolleys who indulged in extraction of minerals from River Tawi bed in lieu of money.
Police sources said that some police officials posted in Jammu district have adopted a modus operandi by challaning tractor trolleys laden with sand and other construction material under section 207 of Motor Vehicle (MV) Act instead of seizing them.
"Instead of seizing the tractor trolleys laden with sand and other construction material, a Sub-Inspector who has been posted as incharge police post in Jammu District challaned them under section 207 of MV Act", said sources adding that in lieu of this the officer in question had charged money from them.
According to sources in police department, few weeks ago around one dozen tractor trolleys laden with sand and other construction material extracted from River Tawi bed were intercepted by police team which were later taken to police post.
The officer seized only two tractor trolleys which were later on released from High Court after paying fine, while rest of tractor trolleys were seized under section 207 of MV Act which is clear cut violation of High Court directions.
